Dale-ization, part 2

I now went to work on the accessory wiring.  There were more circuits on the battery than I like so I reduced it to a single ring terminal on each battery post for all of the accessory wiring.  I then tapped off the positive lead prior to the relay for the switched power and ran that back to the powerlet connector on the left-side rear panel.  This will be used for connecting a battery tender while it’s in the garage, and to connect an air compressor while on the road.

There is a ground block that runs directly to the battery in the glovebox and a switched fuse block (courtesy of EC).  All of the wiring for the switched power was fine so I left that alone.  Sort of.  The screws for the fuse block are torx screws, and there is nothing else on the bike that uses that tool.  The ground lug uses #2 phillips and I didn’t want to have to carry around a torx bit just for one use.  I removed the torx screws and replaced them with #2 phillips.  Now all of the electrical connections in the glovebox use the same tool to attach and remove.  Much better.

On the right-side rear panel, I installed another powerlet, but this one connects to the switched fuse block so it will have power only when the bike is running.  This will probably be used for passenger heated gear as I plan to install another switched powerlet on the dash for my use.  I don’t own any heated gear myself, just planning for the future.

The gps power is wired to the switched fuse block, and I left the 2 amp inline fuse holder in place.  The smallest fuse I can find is 5 amps, and that’s just too much for the gps.  Having 2 fuses in that positive lead is unusual, but is better protection for the gps.  Also, I wired an sae connector to switched power  – this will connect to the tankbag and allow me to keep a cell phone or ipod charged while out in the boonies.  110v outlets for chargers are not easily found so you need to make accomodations for charging.  It will also work to charge my netbook so there’s three uses for a single connection.

Other than the dash-mounted powerlet which I will install later, the wiring is in good shape.

The suspension work is finished and I have a tracking number from Javier.  Finally, getting close to rideable.  That will be good.
